What does the WhatsApp Business API cost in Lebanon?

You pay Meta per message, at a rate that depends on the recipient's country and the category of message. You may also pay a Business Solution Provider for access, and some add a margin per message on top of Meta's rate. Replies to customers who messaged you first are free inside the service window, which is why an assistant that answers people costs very little to run and one that sends campaigns does not.

First, the thing that confuses everyone

There are two different WhatsApp products and they are priced nothing alike. The WhatsApp Business app is the free one you download, run on a phone, and use by hand. The WhatsApp Business Platform, which people call the API, is the one software connects to, and it is paid.

If you have been quoted a monthly fee for something that turns out to run on the free app on somebody's phone, you are paying for labour, not for the platform. That is not automatically bad. It is just not what you thought you bought.

How Meta charges

Per message, in categories. The categories separate a marketing message from a paid once password from a delivery update from a reply to a customer question, and they are priced differently on purpose, with marketing the most expensive.

The rate then depends on the country of the person receiving the message. A Lebanese number and a Saudi number are not the same price, which is why a quote that gives you one flat figure across the region is either averaging or guessing.

We are deliberately not printing today's rates here. They change, and a page that quotes them becomes confidently wrong without anybody editing it. Meta publishes a current rate card by country and category, and that is the only figure worth budgeting against.

The free window, which decides your bill

When a customer messages you, there is a window during which your replies to them cost nothing. Answer inside it and the conversation is free. This is the single most important thing to understand about the pricing, because it separates two businesses that look identical on paper.

An assistant that answers people who chose to contact you spends most of its life inside that free window. An assistant that goes out and messages lists is paying the marketing rate on every send, plus whatever the provider adds, and is also the one that gets reported and blocked.

So the cheap version and the version that does not damage your number are the same version. That is unusually convenient.

What a provider adds, and what to ask

Access to the platform generally goes through a Business Solution Provider. Some charge a platform fee, some add a margin per message over Meta's rate, some do both, and some do neither and make their money elsewhere.

Three questions settle most quotes. Is the WhatsApp Business account in my company's name, so the number stays mine if I leave? Do you add anything to Meta's rate per message, and how much? What happens to my number and my message templates if I stop paying you?

We set the account up in your name and we do not resell messages. You pay Meta directly for those, at their rate, and you pay us for the assistant.

The part that is not money

Getting on the platform means a verified business, an approved display name, and templates approved for anything you initiate. It is administrative rather than difficult, and it is the part people underestimate. Budget days, not hours, and expect at least one template to come back rejected for wording.

Do not take our word for it.

The assistant, working the way it does inside the free window: answering people who came to you.

Also asked

Can I use my existing number?
Usually yes. A number already on the consumer WhatsApp app has to be migrated to the platform, which is a documented process, and it can only live in one place at a time.
Is the green tick included?
No, and it is not the same thing as being verified to send. Verification lets you operate. The badge is a separate application with its own criteria and it is not required to run an assistant.
Why did my quote come with no message costs at all?
Either the provider is absorbing them, which someone is paying for somewhere, or they have not been mentioned yet. Ask which before you sign.
Do we get charged for the assistant's replies?
Not inside the free service window that opens when a customer messages you. Messages you start, like a reminder, are charged at Meta's rate for that category and country.
